Men's Surrey League - Division 2 Fixtures

2009/2010

Fourth Fixture

The fourth and final fixture in the Surrey League on Saturday afternoon in Richmond Park. Both the weather and the conditions underfoot were ideal for running.
We were hosting this race and despite providing most of the marshals, 19 West 4 Harriers ran on Saturday, our best turn out of the season. Ray Dzikowski was first home in 21st place with Antony Di Angelo hot on his heels in 22nd, 1 second behind. We finished 7th in the match but this was not enough to save us from relegation to division 3.
Thanks to everyone who helped out at the race on Saturday, everything seemed to go smoothly. Special thanks to Pete and Rich for organising the marshals on the day and Jon, Keith, Rachel and Shelley for helping to compile the results.
Also thanks you and well done to everyone who ran this season. Hopefully next season we can regroup and bounce straight back up to division 2.

Third Fixture

The third fixture in the Surrey League took place on Saturday afternoon at Lloyd Park, Croydon. Despite the recent rain the course was in fairly good condition with only the back of the course getting really muddy.

17 West 4 Harriers made the trip to Croydon with Matt Holden first finisher in 27th with Rich Berry not far behind in 31st and Gary McGhee in 39th on his cross country debut. Also making their cross country debuts were Greg Reichmann and David Brooks.

West 4 Harriers finished 8th in the fixture, a single point behind 7th placed team Wimbledon Windmilers. This result keeps us bottom of division 2 .

Thanks to everyone who ran and also to Louise F for sending cake along with Rory.

Second Fixture

The second fixture in the Surrey League took place on Saturday afternoon at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking. The race was two 4.5km laps of an undulating course which was decidedly soggy following the torrential rain that had soaked the ladies earlier.

Another good turn out of 15 braved the mud and winds. Rich Berry made an excellent first appearance in West 4 colours, first home in 32nd place. He was closely followed by Antony Di Angelo who was 35th despite nursing a cold! In the match West 4 were again 8th but improved performances from the clubs around us in the league table saw us drop to bottom place overall in division 2.

Thanks to everyone who ran and Andy B and Shelley for supporting and Rachel for helping out with the paperwork as well.

First Fixture
Saturday afternoon saw the return of the cross country season. The men were at West End Common in Esher. The course consisted of two tough laps on trails in the woods of West End Common with several steep hills but no mud! It was very narrow in places which made progress through the field hard work.
A brilliant turn out from the team saw us field 17 runners. All the hard training over the summer paid off for Anthony Di Angelo as he was first West 4 home in 20th place. In the match West 4 were 8th, which unfortunately puts us in the relegation zone but with three fixtures remaining and several runners missing this time we should be able to stay in division 2.
